Mort à Vignole

Year1998 Duration26 min. DirectorOliver Smolders

A first exercise in the filming of death, ‘to lose our initial fear’, as put in the film itself. A dialogue between Olivier Smolders and the family footage of a trip to Venice brought to a tragic end. Time moving in circles and masterfully telling us that the beginning of life is quite similar to its end. We can hear Shostakovich’s Valse du souvenir in the background, as we see the best faces that playful childhood can present us with.
