Give me something to ward off the darkness. Give me images to light up our road to darkness. Give me sounds, give me silences to ward off the fear. Ben Rivers and Ben Russell – BR & BR – had been working separately on film as a two way road to formal and personal explorations, a way of lighting up a blind world. Now they have come together for a jointly directed film that is an enquiry into the possibilities of a spiritual existence within an increasingly secular world. Halfway down between experimental counter-ethnography and drowsy, phantasmagorical portrait, between the explosion of dark metal and the utopian community, the film follows a silent character in three disparate moments of his life. Together, BR & BR explore the possibilities for film to become another road into the unknown.
