X Films Proyect 2014

Isidoro Valcárcel Medina The Festival’s last day will be the world premiere of the winner of the X Films Project 2014: El otro mapa de Abauntz, by Aitor Gametxo (Lekeitio, 1989).

The film, with a running time of 60 minutes, was produced in 2014 after Gametxo was the filmmaker selected by X Films Project in the 2014 edition of the Punto de Vista International Seminar.

On reading the news about the incredible finding of the first map of Western Europe in Abauntz cave in Navarra, the filmmaker went into the nearest town, Arraitz (Ultzama Valley), to trace another map with his own hands and those of others he encounters. It is a contemporary map which combines not to be missed festivities, daily rituals and future traditions. But, he soon realises that what he is making is not just one map. In reality, there are two. Or at least two.

The project of this filmmaker was chosen by the selection committee "considering that creative freedom, intuition and risk are the essence that feeds the X Films project."
