“The sun soared up and exploded behind his eyelids.” — Yukio Mishima.
Lois Patiño and Xabier Erkizia are currently working together on various projects that explore the expressive possibilities of sound and image beyond the conventions of cinema. The chance to explore the space of the planetarium stands as the perfect opportunity to cross these limits. During the session, we will be able to witness different trials that they are conducting for two projects: Samsara, which works around the idea of the Buddhist cycle of death and rebirth; and El sembrador de estrellas, which proposes a contemplative experience of the city of Tokyo at night.
Lois Patiño (Vigo, 1983) combined his psychology studies at the Complutense University of Madrid with film studies at TAI University of the Arts Madrid. He then studied Film at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) and a Master’s degree in Creative Documentary Film at the Pompeu Fabra University. He has taken courses on video creation at the Berlin University of the Arts and attended workshops with artists and filmmakers such as Joan Jonas, Pedro Costa, Víctor Erice, José Luis Guerín and Daniel Canogar. His videos and video installations have been shown at international art centres and his films have been screened in Berlin, Locarno, Rotterdam, New York, BAFICI and Oberhausen, among others.
Xabier Erkizia is a musician, producer and sound artist, and his work focuses on research and curiosity for any creation that involves listening and sound. His works mainly take the form of installations, phonographic, radio and audiovisual works, written essays and soundtracks for audiovisual works for which he has received international awards.
