The Selection Committee for the Official Selection is integrated by Garbiñe Ortega, Nuria Cubas, Matías Piñeiro, María Palacios Cruz and Miguel Zozaya.
Garbiñe Ortega is a film curator from Spain. Her curatorial work has been programmed internationally at Film Society of Lincoln Center (New York), Tate Modern (London), Film Museum de Viena, National Gallery of Art (Washington) and Pacific Film Archive (California), among others. She is the cofounder of ZINELEKU a film-camp that takes places in the Basque Country. Currently, she teaches at Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastian) and ESCAC (Barcelona). She is the artistic director of Punto de Vista International Film Festival.
Ms Cubas studied Film and Literature in Madrid. In 2004, she moved to Mexico City to continue her film studies. In 2013, she launched Pasajes de Cine, a project to screen films and videos in Madrid. In 2015, she introduced and directed FILMADRID, the Madrid International Film Festival. At present, she is a programmer at La Neomudéjar in Madrid.
Mr Piñeiro studied at Universidad del Cine, where he was also a professor of Film Studies and History of Film. In 2011, he moved to the United States as part of the Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Programme. His films include El hombre robado (2007), Todos mienten (2009), Rosalinda (2010), Viola (2012), The Princess of France (2014) and Hermia & Helena (2016). He lives in New York, where he is a professor at Pratt Institute.
Ms Palacios is a writer, a scholar and a curator specialising in avant-garde film. She is deputy director at LUX, a London-based organisation giving support to film and video productions. Before her current position, she was the director of the Courtisane Festival in Ghent, Belgium. Ms Palacios has curated film screenings, events and exhibitions in the world’s leading art venues, including Tate Britain (London), UnionDocs (New York), Cinematek (Brussels), Centre Pompidou (Paris) and M HKA (Antwerp). She is co-founder of The Visible Press, a London-based publishing house for books by and about filmmakers. At present, she is the head of the curatorial area at Elías Querejeta Film School.
PhD in Film Theory, Analysis and Documentation awarded by the University of the Basque Country. As a film historian, he has published articles in books and academic journals, and has taken part in several conferences. He has also participated in two University of Navarra research projects on the X Films production company. As a programmer, he has curated seasons for the ‘Ateneo’ and the Navarra film library, among others.
