Pablo Casanueva (Ribeseya, Asturies , 1995) is a film-maker and visual artist. Through films and images, he narrates and investigates the concepts of memory, cultural identity and politics. Through collective and family lenses, he tackles these topics using the photographic and documentary landscape and archive, with a focus on regional memory. He has a Degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Burgos, with one SICUE year at the University of the Basque Country, in Bilbao. He has participated in training courses and artist residencies at such spaces as the International School of Film and TV in Cuba, LABoral Art Centre, FICX Academy, FilmLab and El Palacio (Xixón). His works include the full-length film Luna (2024), the short film 8 filmes sobre la guerra (2022) and the exhibitions La imaxe, lo tapecío (2024) and Xente (2021). He also develops projects tied to photography, audiovisual essays, video-creation and the theatre.
His cinematographic work has been shown at such festivals and spaces as the Gijón International Film Festival, the Punto de Vista International Documentary Film Festival of Navarra, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the Europa Film Festival, the Obrero LAN Audiovisual Festival (Bilbo), SACO (Uviéu), the Aguilar Film Festival, the Babel Film Festival (Cagliari, Italy), La Pinochera Rural Film Week (Tenerife, Canary Islands), Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbo) and the Eureka European Cultural Centre (Santander). His plastic work has formed part of the Muestra de Artes Plástiques del Principáu d’Asturies (2022) and the programme at such spaces as LABoral Art Centre (Xixón), Sala Borrón (Uviéu), Factoría Cultural d’Avilés, Antigua Rula (Xixón), Antiguu Institutu (Xixón), Muséu Etnográficu del Oriente d’Asturias (Porrúa), Festival Intercélticu de Lorient (Brittany, France) and the Valey Cultural Centre (Castrillón).
Pablo Casanueva presents the results of his research project, carried out for X Films during his residency at Centro Huarte. He uses the archive as a line of research, and fragmentation as a structure, to search among the shadows for something on which to cast light.
