Iratxe Fresneda’s biography

Iratxe Fresneda is part of a new generation of female directors shaped at the intersection of audiovisual research and professional practice. A professor at the University of the Basque Country, EHU, her cinema —inspired by “forgotten archives”— focuses, from a personal perspective, on non-fiction filmmaking.

Her first feature film, Irrintziaren oihartzunak —2016—, premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival and marked the beginning of “La trilogía del registro”, “The Registry Trilogy,” completed by Lurralde hotzak —2018— and Tetuán —2022—.

Her short piece Errotatiba —2024—, included in Kimuak 2025 and Ambulante México 2026, had its international premiere at Cinequest. She is currently working on her latest feature film, Bide guztiak.
