Punto de Vista 2016 Award Winners

After watching all the films in the Official Selection-The Central Region and having the relevant discussions, the 10th Punto de Vista Navarra International Documentary Film Festival Official Jury, whose members are Antje Ehmann, Claire Simon, Javier H. Estrada, Luis Ospina and Maria Bonsanti, have reached an agreement about this year’s awards:

Punto de Vista Grand Jury Prize for Best Film (€10,000) to Oleg and the Rare Arts (Spain), by Andrés Duque, ‘for its innovative, consistent and sensitive approach to the portrait of an artist.’

Jean Vigo Prize for Best Director (€5000) to Jakob Brossman for Lampedusa in Winter (UK), ‘a debut feature film directed with skill, firmness and humanity.’

Award for Best Short Film (€3000) to The Meadow (Switzerland), by Jela Hasler, ‘for making an accurate, subtle and elegant film out of a complex political reality.’

In addition, Special Mention to Writing on the City (Iran), by Keywan Karimi, ‘a brave, inspiring film.’ With this special prize, the Punto de Vista Jury give their support to 223 Words, the Festival’s campaign in favour of the Iranian filmmaker, who was sentenced to six years in prison and 223 lashes because of the contents of his films.
 

SPECIAL AWARDS

People’s Choice Award for Best Film (€1500) to Casa Blanca (Poland), by Aleksandra Maciuszek.

Youth Award for Best Film (€1500) to Casa Blanca (Poland), by Aleksandra Maciuszek, ‘a film featuring an intimate atmosphere that is seldom captured on the screen, far from drama and close to the complexity and depth of human relations.’

Youth Special Mention to Among Us (Netherlands), by Guido Hendriks, ‘for bravely voicing the claims of the damned and the doomed, and stirring debate about a taboo topic.’
 

DARKNESS AWARD

Children, a short film by Marah Al Hassan, took the Darkness Award (first prize: a computer, a hard disk and a camera), while Another Kind of Girl, by Khaldiya Jibawi, got the second prize (a computer and a hard disk) and The Girl, Whose Shadow Reflects The Moon, by Walaa Al Alawi, was granted the third prize (a camera).
 

X FILMS PROJECT

The members of the X Films Project Selection Committee – Mercedes Álvarez, Marie-Pierre Duhamel and Alfredo Sanzol – read the projects by Carolina Astudillo, Xacio Baño and César Velasco Broca, and held interviews with all three filmmakers to finally choose Velasco Broca’s New altar (working title) ‘for its experimental nature and the strong formal challenges it poses.’
