Way Jambu

Country: Spain
Year: 2011
Duration: 8'
Direction: Manu Uranga
Production: Alex Uranga, Manu Uranga

2012 Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen

Within the different close-ups of paradise studied in this ISLANDS programme, this is undoubtedly the most risky. A camera is left abandoned to the mercy of the waves on a surf board   lost by its owner in the middle of the sea… The camera continues filming in an eight-minute scene without any cuts, like a bottle thrown into the ocean to finally wash up on the southern coast of Sumatra. Some children rescue it and we watch their family’s confusion regarding a mysterious object that has come from nowhere. It is a film exercise without a filmmaker which provides us with an anthropological portrait.

Manu Uranga

(Zumaia, 1980)

Manu Uranga lives and works in Bilbao. He holds a degree in Art from 2005. In his latest works he reflects on the exploratory processes on the physical alterations of space through sculpture and the audio visual language. Currently, he is carrying out the Gio Bat project in Bilbao (venue on Dos de mayo Street 19). His most recent solo exhibitions include Decúbito manual (Sala Rekalde, Bilbao, 2013), Planos (Torre de Ariz, Basauri, 2011) and Planta (Official Architects’ Society of Navarra and the Basque Country, Bilbao, 2012). In 2012, he published MLDJ, a compilation of the activities in the project under the same name. In addition, his works have been part of several group exhibitions, such as Izena Gero, curated by Iskandar Rementeria (Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, 2013), and Gure Artea, curated by Miren Jaio (Sala Rekalde, 2008).
