“The world is something strange, distant to all my emotions”. An alien is a foreign, strange or excluded person. In popular culture, it is an inhabitant from another planet. Tesa Arranz, a key figure in La Movida Madrileña (Madrid Scene) and singer of the group, Zombies, has painted five hundred portraits of aliens. The work confronts the subconscious side of Tesa Arranz’s painting with memories of the 1980s, poems and newspapers. These portraits will be terrestrial reflections of an extrarerrestrial time: the emotional landscape of a moment from the past in which happiness and nightmares, experimentation and alienation went hand in hand in Spain.
