The feminist slogan “We want bread, but we want roses too,” was first chanted by thousands of striking female textile workers in Massachusetts in 1912. Sharing in their spirit, Marazzi’s vibrant film portrays the impact of the 1960s and 1970s sexual revolution and feminist movement in Italy. A gorgeous journey through archival footage, advertisements, and colourful images juxtaposed with the true-life struggles and diaries of three Italian women fighting for independence and freedom. An ironical, critical collage where personal struggles become political arguments to deconstruct an oppressive society.

Alina Marazzi

Alina Marazzi. Born in 1964, lives and works in Milan, Italy. Her critically acclaimed Un’ora sola ti vorrei won best Italian documentary at the 2002 Torino Film Festival, and received special mentions by the jury at the 2002 Locarno Film Festival.
