In a world that promises a perfect life, Marie Anne tries to escape. At that point, all trace of her is lost forever.
The history of the cinema does not merely lie in movements and authors. It also exists in other types of fragments and films: cinematographic news bulletins, advertising films, unedited materials and other views of a documented country. At the Pablo Ducrós Hicken Cinema Museum in Buenos Aires, they have been working for years to bring these images from the past into the present. They work with filmmakers to produce new films with those images, shining a spotlight on how to rethink the forgotten story of moving images. ¿Dónde está Marie Anne? was made using advertising materials dating from a period between 1976 and 1983 (encompassing the last military dictatorship in Argentina) which show how life was leaning towards consumption at that time. In this image, Gottlieb finds minimal moments, fragments of the landscape, elements of how things move, their speed and texture. During these sales pitches, other things appear which are not for sale. The intention to be hypnotised by capitalism is there, although when taken out of context, the images become disturbing. Marie Anne Erize, actress, model and Montoneros activist appears in one of those fragments.
