In June 1931, two months after the proclamation of the Second Republic, the Virgin appeared to two boys in Ezkioga (Basque Country). This occurrence was followed by a spectacle of collective visions, trances and ecstasies that managed to gather more than 80,000 persons together in just one day. Among the prophecies, one warned that there would be a civil war in Spain between Catholics and non-Catholics. In the construction of this phenomenon, photography plays a key role.
