In two additional short films on Venice commissioned in 1948, Emmer returns to the city of his childhood after the end of the war. In Romantici a Venezia (The Romantics of Venice), with the text by Cocteau in the French version, it focuses on the famous Venice proudly reflected in its canals, inhabited by the ghosts of poets and composers who are now legendary. In Isole nella laguna (Island in the Lagoon), the more melancholic of the two, pans the islands of the lagoon, their empty spaces, their few inhabitants who create artesian masterpieces without ever smiling. The images of both films return half a century later to conjure up Venice at the end of the century destroyed by tourism in Nostalgia.
