A small Italian island in the Mediterranean is the setting and tale of the drama of our days. When the tourists abandon it after the summer, other visitors arrive by sea, with no desire to visit monuments or enjoy the beaches: thousands of African refugees stumble upon this stretch of land and are shipwrecked on their long journey to the European dream. Meanwhile, the island continues its pulse and the local fisherman go on strike to demand a new ferry to provide an outlet for their catches. Soon, the dramas intertwine. It is winter in Lampedusa.
