Spanish premiere

The director follows the rehearsals of Chekhov’s Three Sisters, directed by Enrique Diaz and featuring Galpão, a Belo Horizonte/Minas Gerais-based theatre troupe. Coutinho chose Three Sisters because ‘Chekhov is a maestro and this play is a deeply powerful experience for performers,’ but he plays almost no part in the adaptation or the staging. Where in his previous film, Jogo de Cena (2007), Coutinho gradually blurs the line between fiction and reality, here there is no border at all. The camera does not catch the stage; it rather wanders in the boxes and the wings, recording the reading of the scenes, the rehearsal and the training of actors and actresses to get a grasp of the text cemented on their personal background and local perspective.
