The director and his crew spend two weeks with the residents in Santa Marta, a favela in southern Rio. The result is a portrait of their everyday life: music, religion, violence, racism, partying, the utopias of the young… Early in the movie, the filmmaker spells out the shooting conditions. The crew ask local people to talk about the violence and discrimination they have been victims of. The interviews take place in people’s homes, in the streets and within the premises of the association bringing the favela dwellers together.
