Vic Chesnutt wrote and performs this song about ‘Benjamin,’ the musician portrayed in the film Benjamin Smoke. These two renegade Southern musicians were friends that lived in the rival cities of Athens, Georgia and Atlanta and encouraged each other’s musical efforts and bad behavior. Jem Cohen and Peter Sillen brought Vic into T.Griffin’s basement studio to record and film the track.
