Perovic likes to shoot lonely people wandering in the wildest Montenegrin landscapes. His main characters are always men against the horizon. The Smoke is the third part of a hero trilogy (the term is Perovic’s) whose characters walk across the karst mountains surrounding the lovely Bay of Kotor. This third hero makes his way up along a footpath that has been there since the dawn of time – a journey he makes in exactly the same way in all four seasons. The goal is always the same: to kindle the flames of fire in an abandoned house.
