A poignant personal exploration of addiction and self-destruction during the director’s teenage years: bulimia, stormy relationships with men, and so on. Through crayon drawings, family albums, excerpts from her adolescent diary, and other autobiographical materials, Vanalyne Green the cultural restraints on femininity for a girl growing up with alcoholic parents.

Vanalyne Green

Vanalyne Green is known for work that appropriates the conventions of various genres to examine hierarchies of meaning where sex and privilege cross paths. Her work playfully and bitterly examines the paradoxes of American citizenship within such social practices as addiction, sports, sexuality, and, most recently, prayer. Green's videos have shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Videotheque de Paris, among many other venues. Vanalyne Green is Chair in Fine Art at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds in England.
