WASTE no.2 WRECK

Year2016 Duration11 min. DirectorJan Ijäs

Rabbit Beach in Lampedusa has recently been voted the best beach in the world on TripAdvisor. Located between the coasts of Italy and Tunisia, the Mediterranean island is also the most tragic point in the drama of immigration that plagues us today. Facing this terrible irony without losing the poetic feel of its images, an ironic voice-over lists the contrasts of a holiday paradise populated by a cemetery of boats, abandoned personal belongings and absent lives which take on a new value, symbolising the unstoppable drifting of the Old Continent. The challenge: to make a film about immigrants without showing them.
