Hans Hurch will join the other four members of the Punto de Vista 2011 International Jury, namely, filmmakers Ben Russell and Naomi Uman, film curator at the MoMA Josh Siegel and professor Josep Maria Català. The five of them will decide the winners in the Official Selection.

Born in 1952 in Austria, Hans Hurch studied History of Art, Philosophy and Archaeology at the University of Vienna. From 1976 to 1986, he worked as editorial journalist at the Vienna newspaper Falter, where he was head of cultural department, editor for music, photography and film; he also wrote for various international newspapers. In this period, he was also in charge of programming film series, retrospectives and special programs for several institutions including Viennale and Wiener Festwochen. From 1986 to 2000 he was collaborator and assistant director at theatre and film works by Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet (Der Tod des Empedokles, 1987; Schwarze Sünde, 1989; Antigone, 1992). From 1990 to 1992 he worked in Berlin together with Astrid Johanna Ofner on the documentaries Jetzt und in alle Zeit and Ins Leere (both 1993). From 1993 to 1996, he was curator of “hundertjahrekino” for the federal ministry of science and culture, and did various projects, exhibitions and film programs in Austria for the 100th birthday of cinema. Since 1997 he is director of the prestigious VIENNALE Vienna International Film Festival.
