Two of the leading documentary film directors in the world, Nicolas Philibert from France and Patricio Guzmán from Chile, are attending special sessions of their own at Punto de Vista 2011. Philibert is opening the Festival with the screening of his latest feature film, Nénette, on Tuesday 22 at 8:00 p.m. Nénette portrays the life of an orangutan who has been living in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris since 1972. Time and visitors have turned Nénette into a mirror of human feelings, thoughts, and intentions. Philibert, who took part in Punto de Vista 2008, is coming again this year to share his film with festival-goers.

Likewise, Patricio Guzmán is coming to present Nostalgia for the Light, a poetic and politically committed documentary drawing a parallel between the searches undertaken by a group of astronomers in the Atacama desert and the families of the desaparecidos under Pinochet’s dictatorship, between the memory of the universe and the historical memory of men. The film, which is being shown on Wednesday 23 at 20:00 p.m., got the European Film Award for best documentary and a Special Mention at Cannes, among other prizes.

Both directors will attend the screening of their films and talk with the audience afterwards.
