Punto de Vista comes to BAFICI, the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival

Notes on the Ephemeral

With 426 films, 22 screens, 11 venues, and almost 280,000 moviegoers last year, BAFICI is one of leading film festivals in Latin America. In its 2011 edition, to be held from April 6 to 17, the Argentine festival will include a special programme dedicated to Punto de Vista. In this special session, three Punto de Vista-produced films will be screened: Notas de lo efímero/Notes of the Ephemeral (2010), by León-born Chus Domínguez, and Crossing Paths With Luce Vigo (2010) and Opus Luminis et Hominis (Works of Light and Man) (2010), by Jem Cohen. Notas de lo efímero is the first film produced in the context of the X Films Project, an initiative launched by Punto de Vista to give a boost to Spanish filmmakers. As to the short films by Cohen, they were shot and edited during his stay in Pamplona for Punto de Vista 2010. The three films are thus moving to Buenos Aires to be shown in April, in an exclusive programme focusing on Punto de Vista works.

Our presence at BAFICI gives a boost to Punto de Vista’s internationalisation efforts through cooperation with festivals that share our interests and principles, and stresses Punto de Vista’s role in film production through the support to projects that cannot find a place in the mainstream film industry.

In line with this expansion and cooperation efforts, the Punto de Vista special programme “The Personal Is Political” will be screened at the Castile-León Museum of Contemporary Art, MUSAC, as of April 14. The films will be introduced by one of the programme’s coordinators, Elena Oroz. Last year, MUSAC held a Punto de Vista cycle under the title “Punto de Vista Authors: Independent, Heterodox, Radical.” Likewise, the Vitoria-Gasteiz Basque Museum and Centre of Contemporary Art, Artium, will show all the award-winning films at the 7th Punto de Vista.
