Punto de Vista welcomes in its seventh edition the world premiere of the film correspondence between one of the legends of documentary film, Jonas Mekas, and Jose Luis Guerin, one of the leading representatives of the auteur cinema in Spain. This correspondence consisting of a series of filmed letters which both authors have been exchanging, leads to a personal relationship which reveals shared impressions, views and similarities between the two filmmakers. While Mekas describes his relationship with New York, the city where he has been living over half a century, Guerin recounts his travels in 10-12 minutes long short films. Thus, this unique relationship grows in front of the viewer's eyes, attending to the formal experimentation with the expressive language and the visual reflections of two renowned artists.
This new epistolary film genre that allows the exchange of filmed ideas between two filmmakers, where similarities and differences arise, was born as a co production between the Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), the Centro Cultural Universitario Tlatelolco (UNAM - Mexico) and SEACEX and is part of a broader project to be released in april 2011 (Mexico) and october 2011 (CCCB and La Casa Encendida) with the correspondences between other filmmakers: Victor Erice/Abbas Kiarostami, Isaki Lacuesta/Naomi Kawase, Jaime Rosales/ Wang Bing, Lisandro Alonso/ Albert Serra y Fernando Eimbcke /So Yong Kim.
