Winners of the 7th edition of Punto de Vista

Foreign Parts, by Véréna Paravel and Jean Paul Sniadecki, best film; The Arbor, by Clio Barnard, Jean Vigo Prize for the Best Direction; Translating Edwin Honig: A Poet"s Alzheimer, by Alan Berliner, Best Short Film, Special Mention for 48, by Susana de Sousa, and Ici-Bas, by Comes Chahbazian.
In Pamplona, at 14.00 hours on Saturday 26th February 2011, the members of the Jury of the 7th International Documentary Film Festival of Navarra (‘Punto de Vista’) meet in the Maisonave hotel, Pamplona. The jury members are Mr Josep Maria Catala, Mr. Hans Hurch, Mr. Ben Russell, Mr Joshua Siegel and Ms Naomi Uman.
The Jury has previously seen all the films presented for the Official Section. Following due discussion, it decides to award the following prizes:
 
Special Mention, worth 1,250 euros, for Ici-Bas (France/Belgium) by Comes Chahbazian, for its use of visual metaphor to depict scenes of domestic intimacy and political urgency in Armenia today.
    
Special Mention, worth 1,250 euros, for 48 (Portugal) by Susana de Sousa Dias, for its haunting and confrontational use of still photographs and the voices of political prisoners to bear witness to a country’s tragic, criminal past.
 
Prize for the Best Short Film, worth 3,500 euros, for Translating Edwin Honig: A Poet’s Alzheimer (EE. UU.) by Alan Berliner, a transformative portrait of aging, language, and memory – a tribute to the poet Edwing Honig, a man who may very well be the oldest living hip-hop artist.
’Jean Vigo’ Prize for the Best Direction, worth 5,500 euros, to Clio Barnard, for The Arbor (U.K.), for its provocative use of Brechtian devices that force us to question what documentary is and can be.
‘Punto de Vista’ Prize for the best film, worth 10,000 Euros, for Foreign Parts (EE. UU.) by Véréna Paravel and Jean Paul Sniadecki,a subtle and sensitive record of an urban ecosystem that is surprisingly resilient, even in the face of governmental indifference and greed.
