796 films have been entered for this year’s Punto de Vista Film Festival

A total of 796 documentary films, both shorts and full-length features, have been entered for the 2013 ‘Punto de Vista’ Navarre International Documentary Film Festival. The event, organised by Fundación INAAC, part of the Regional Government of Navarre, will be taking place between 19th and 24th February 2013.

A photograph by the American artist Sharon Lockhart will be the image of the eighth edition of the Punto de Vista Festival

The Punto de Vista Festival has its billboard for the forthcoming edition. Since 2007, an image by a professional photographer has been used to illustrate each edition and on this occasion, Panel Line Break Room photograph by Sharon Lockhart has been chosen from her Lunch Break series. The American photographer and filmmaker and Gladstone Gallery have transferred the rights to this photograph to the festival for use as the image of the eighth edition, which will be held in Pamplona from 19th to 24th February 2013. Clemente Bernard, Matías Costa, Ellen Koi, Vicent Fournier, Aaron Huey and Bill Brown have collaborated as photographers in previous editions.

Jorge Tur looks for traces of the Sanchicorrota bandit in the Bardenas Desert

Jorge Tur, award winning filmmaker of Proyecto X Films 2012, has just returned to Barcelona following his stay in Navarre for the filming of Dime quién era Sanchicorrota (provisional title. The producer from Barcelona has lived in the Bardenas Desert for twenty days in search of traces of Sanchicorrota, an ancient bandit who stole from the rich to give to the poor, but unlike Robin Hood, he really existed and was living in this desert.

New ‘Punto de Vista in Focus’ in May

In May, the Navarra Film Library is playing host to the third edition of ‘Punto de Vista in Focus.’ This event was first held in November 2010, with the aim of extending the Punto de Vista Film Festival’s presence in Pamplona throughout the year. Its format is that of short cycles which, under the general title ‘Punto de Vista in Focus,’ focus on a specific phenomenon related to documentary making. This time, the phenomenon in focus is ‘Displacement, Loss and Melancholy: Spaniards in Exile in Mexico,’ screening four films shot between 1939 and 1963 by filmmakers forced to leave their country at the end of the Spanish Civil War.

79 professionals and 29 students have signed up for the 1st Punto de Vista Seminar, 2012 – a meeting point for independent film directors and audiences, screening new non-fiction films in the spirit of Navarra’s Film Festival. In the 1st edition, from 22 to 25 February, the seminar will focus on the works of Amir Muhammad and Sylvain George. Tickets to watch the seminar’s films (which will be open to the general public) are now available.
