796 films have been entered for this year’s Punto de Vista Film Festival

A total of 796 documentary films, both shorts and full-length features, have been entered for the 2013 ‘Punto de Vista’ Navarre International Documentary Film Festival. The event, organised by Fundación INAAC, part of the Regional Government of Navarre, will be taking place between 19th and 24th February 2013.

The 796 films competing for a place in the Official Section come from 62 different countries. The highest level of participation is from Spain, with 290 entries, followed by France (70 films), the US (51), Brazil (39), Germany, Belgium and U.K. (26 each). There have also been submissions to this pre-selection stage from countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Israel, Iran, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Chile, South Africa and Thailand, in addition to 111 joint productions between various countries.

In addition to these 796 films, there are an additional 659 documentaries presented at the previous edition of the festival, which in the end did not take place. From amongst these films, a number will be chosen as part of the Official Selection at the 8th edition of the Punto de Vista Festival.

This is also the first edition of the festival where participants have submitted their work online, eliminating the submission of physical media in favour of sending films over the internet, which makes it easier to submit entries from anywhere in the world.  

The chosen films will be competing for the prizes available at the Festival: the Punto de Vista Grand Prize for Best Film, worth 10,000 euros, the Jean Vigo Prize for Best Director, worth 5,500 euros, and the Prize for the Best Short Film, with prize money of 3,500 euros. The Festival also awards two special mentions each worth 1,250 euros. Audiences can also vote for the Audience Award for best film, worth 2,500 euros.
