Punto de Vista proposes a fascinating journey through time in films via 50 titles

To mark the tenth anniversary of Punto de Vista, this year’s themed retrospective, under the name of Ten Years Older will be dedicated to Time, to the relationship and interplay between documentary film and one of its key concepts and raw materials: Time. Paying tribute to the legendary film, Ten Minutes Older, by Herz Frank, an old friend who was present at the festival, this cycle proposes an extensive journey through more than 50 non-fiction works that share the significant presence of time.

Punto de Vista is showing the world premieres of films about Pollet and Maenza

Two of the cinematographic figures in the spotlight of this 10th edition of Punto de Vista, Jean-Daniel Pollet and Antonio Maenza, have had two new film biographies made of them recently, which will receive their world premiere at the Festival in 2016: Jean-Daniel, parle moi encore!, by the French director Jean-Paul Fargier, and Cinematógrafo, magnetófono, buen chico y sádico, by Valencian filmmaker Carles Candela. Both filmmakers will visit Pamplona to present their filmic tributes.

The Radio 3 programme El Séptimo Vicio will cover the Punto de Vista Festival with live programmes open to the public and concerts by El Drogas, Tonino Carotone and Belize

For the second year running, the Spanish Radio 3 programme El Séptimo Vicio will be setting up shop in Pamplona for the duration of the Festival, taking place between 8th and 14th February, to provide detailed daily coverage of this tenth edition. It is the only programme on Radio 3 dedicated specifically to cinema and especially to auteur film, a genre that encompasses the Punto de Vista programming.

The great French filmmaker Agnès Varda is the latest name to take part in the project entitled 223 words, a collective film that represents the Punto de Vista festival’s response to the sentence handed down to Iranian filmmaker Keywan Karimi, six years imprisonment and 223 lashes, as a punishment for his latest film, Writing on the city, the world premiere of which will take place at the tenth edition of the film festival in Navarre. The documentary made by Keywan Karimi is an essay on the history and use made of graffiti and political murals as a means of expression and freedom in the city of Teheran.

John Berger and Víctor Erice are among the essayists featured in the new book brought out as part of the Punto de Vista collection

The presence of Time in the cinema is the focus of the latest book in the Punto de Vista collection, a volume entitled TIME, which includes a series of essays written and prepared to mark the tenth anniversary of this film festival in Navarre. Nicole Brenez, Jonathan Rosenbaum and Georges Didi-Huberman have also contributed essays, along with John Berger and Víctor Erice, with texts that examine dialogue, dance, and the battle cinema has been waging right from the start with one of its primordial elements, and which the festival is dedicated to this year: Time.

Punto de Vista dedicates its Heterodocsias section to the filmmaker José Antonio Maenza

José Antonio Maenza will be the star of Heterodocsias, the space that Punto de Vista dedicates to the least known films in our country. This section, which will be called ¡Maenza existe! (Maenza exists!) in 2016, in reference to his Teruel origins, will screen the three films made by this artist from Aragon: El lobby contra el cordero (1967-68), Orfeo en el campo de batalla (1968-1969) and Hortensia/Beancé(1969).

The films, The Blue Planet and Vita Brevis will be the focus of the opening and closing sessions of the 10th edition of Punto de Vista

Two full-length films programmed within the themed retrospective that Punto de Vista will devote to Time, under the title of Ten Years Older, will open and close the 10th edition of the Navarra festival: The Blue Planet, by Franco Piavoli from Italy, who will visit Pamplona to present the film; and Vita Brevis, by the Belgian filmmaker, Thierry Knauff, who will also be present to close the event at its final gala.

Antje Ehmann, Claire Simon, Javier H. Estrada, Luis Ospina and Maria Bonsanti will make up the International Jury at Punto de Vista 2015

Antje Ehmann from Germany, Claire Simon from Britain, Javier H. Estrada from Spain, Luis Ospina from Colombia and Maria Bonsanti from Italy will be the members of the International Jury of this tenth anniversary edition of the Punto de Vista Festival. The main jury will evaluate the 17 films that are competing in this year’s Official Section - The Central Region (9 full-length films and 8 short films) and will grant three awards: the Punto de Vista Award for the Best Film, the Jean Vigo Award for the Best Director and the Award for Best Short Film. This International Jury is joined by the Youth Jury, who will present the Youth Award for the Best Film and the public who will do the same with their People’s Choice Award for the Best Film. Furthermore, Claire Simon and Luis Ospina will be present in the programming of the 10th edition of Punto de Vista with special sessions of their latest films: The Woods Dreams are Made Of and It All Started at the End.
