Punto de Vista 2018 Award winners

Having seen all the works presented to the Official Section and following the relevant deliberations, the official jury of the 12th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival of Navarra Punto de Vista, consisting of Rebecca Baron, Fran Gayo, Paolo Moretti, Nicolás Pereda and Celine Browez, has decided to award the following prizes:

Official prizes

► Punto de Vista First Prize for the Best Film, worth €10,000 euros, to FLORES by Jorge Jácome, ‘post-apocalyptic and bucolic, disturbing and sensual, traditional and futuristic, the film combines contradictory elements and constructs a personal poetic universe.’
► Jean Vigo Prize for the Best Director, worth €5,000, to ELOHIM, OR DIVINE BEINGS, THE ENERGY OF LIGHT AS CREATION by Nathaniel Dorsky, because ‘this award recognises an entire career, both unique and showing implacable commitment, a career of unshakeable faith in the image which returns the experience of viewing film in a cinema the central role that it deserves. Few directors manage to make you feel that films, their films, are living beings which breathe before your eyes like this director does.’
►Prize for the Best Short Film, worth €3,000, to OPTIMISM by Deborah Stratman:
‘Witty, playful and stylish, this film stimulates and renews the viewer’s eyes and ears, while reflecting on how humans have intervened on Earth over history.’

Special Prizes

► The Audience’s Prize for the Best Film, worth €1,650, to YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL by Marina Lameiro.
►Youth Prize for the Best Film, worth €1,500 euros, to FLORES by Jorge Jacome, because ‘the film reflects on an ecological and political issue, outlining three possible outcomes. It attaches particular importance to a more sensory, poetic and suggestive approach. Nature and civilisation find dialogue in the synaesthesia of disaster.’
► Jury’s Special Mention to the Director of O PEIXE, Jonathas de Andrade: ‘An apparently ethnographic approach becomes a disturbing, surprising cinematic experience which powerfully evokes a wide range of emotions.

X FILMS

► Meanwhile, following the necessary deliberations, the members of the Selection Committee of the X FILMS PROJECT -Martin Pawley, Virginia Garcia de Pino and Marta Selva-, after considering the three projects in writing and then in the public display made by their authors - lacasinegra, Dostopos and Zazpi t’erdi- have decided to grant the X Films Project award to Zazpi T'erdi for its project LA VÍA FLOTANTE, ‘the proposed exploration into the signs of things human.’ The jury also recognises the ‘enormous effort and interest shown by the groups taking part.’
