This Thursday, the Navarra Film Library is hosting the last Punto de Vista FOCO before the festival gets under way. The session will warm us up for all the cinema to come with ¿DÓNDE YACE TU SONRISA ESCONDIDA?. In this documentary, the Portuguese director Pedro Costa filmed the personal and professional life of the Straub-Huillet duo. Through his camera, we are afforded a professional and personal portrait which reaches beyond the lights and the cameras.

Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet always worked together and created 24 motion pictures between 1963 and 2006. They are best known for films such as KLASSENVERHÄLTNISSE -a brilliant interpretation of Franz Kafka’s Amerika, a classic of European literature- or CRÓNICA DE ANNA MAGDALENA BACH-a portrait of Johann Sebastian Bach through a journal written by his wife and with the composer’s music taking a leading role. This outstanding filmmaking couple worked together until Danièle died on the 9th of October 2006.

In ¿DÓNDE YACE TU SONRISA ESCONDIDA?, Pedro Costa focuses on one of their creations: Sicilia! The director takes a look at the editing process for the third version of the film. Costa is known for his unique approach to experimental film and docufiction. One of the hallmarks of his work is the use of lightweight digital video cameras which facilitate his style: direct cinema, filming reality at first hand and in the sincerest way possible.

The film will be screened at the Navarra Film Library at 8 p.m. on Thursday the 22nd of February. More information here
