The jury for the X Films project consists of Maialen Beloki, Alejandro Díaz Castaño and Montse Triola.
The artistic director of Viennale - the Vienna international film festival - Eva Sangiorgi; the programming director of the Film Society of the Lincoln Center in New York, Dennis Lim; and the lecturer in Film Studies and Humanities at King's College London Erika Balsom make up the international jury for the thirteenth Punto de Vista festival.
The jury will present the festival's three top awards: the Punto de Vista Gran Prize for best film, the Jean Vigo prize for best director and the prize for best short film, during the closing ceremony, to be held on Saturday 16th March.
The work of the international jury, the audience and youth are complemented by the X Films jury, the section of Punto de Vista that offers the chance to undertake an audiovisual production in Navarra. The deputy director of Zinemaldia / San Sebastián film festival, Maialen Beloki; the director of the Gijón international film festival, Alejandro Díaz Castaño; and the producer Montse Triola will be choosing between the projects submitted.
International jury
Eva Sangiorgi worked as film programmer since 2004 with a prominent experience in Latin American and Mexico where she founded and directed FICUNAM, International Film Festival of the National University of Mexico from 2011 to 2018. She has been working developing artist film projects and in 2016 she launched the distribution company BRAVA Cinema. Since 2018 she has been appointed as new Artistic Director of Viennale, Vienna International Film festival.
Dennis Lim is the director of programming at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, where he serves on the selection committees for the New York Film Festival and New Directors/New Films and oversees the year-round repertory and festival programming. He was previously the editorial director of the Museum of Moving Image and the film editor of the Village Voice. The author of a critical biography on David Lynch (The Man From Another Place, 2015), he has contributed to The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Artforum, Film Comment, Cinema Scope, and other publications, and taught film studies at Harvard University and arts criticism at New York University and The New School.
Erika Balsom is a senior lecturer in Film Studies and Liberal Arts at King's College London. Her book After Uniqueness: A History of Film and Video Art in Circulation, was published by Columbia University Press in 2017. She is the author of Exhibiting Cinema in Contemporary Art (2013), the co-editor of Documentary Across Disciplines (2016), and a frequent contributor to magazines such as Artforum, frieze, and Sight and Sound. Her scholarly work has appeared in journals including Cinema Journal, Screen, and Grey Room, and she has contributed to exhibition catalogues for artists including Sarah Sze, Candice Breitz, and Rachel Rose. In 2017, she was the international curator in residence at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre, New Zealand, resulting in the 2018 screening programme and publication An Oceanic Feeling: Cinema and the Sea. In 2018, she was awarded a Leverhulme Prize and the Katherine Singer Kovacs essay award from the Society for Cinema and Media Studies.
X Films jury
Maialen Beloki. Deputy Director of the San Sebastian Festival since 2016. Graduate in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Navarra (Pamplona) 2002-2005. Doctor in Film Theory, Analysis and Documentation (doctoral thesis Between Antonio and Antxon Eceiza. Cinema and politics) from the Public University of the Basque Country, Leioa, 2006-2010. She collaborated in setting the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola film school in motion and is a member of its Academic Directorate. She was a lecturer in communication at the HUHEZI faculty of Mondragon University. She collaborated with the electronic magazine Pausa and participated in the book Antxon Eceiza, cine existencialismo y dialéctica. She participated in the short film selection Kimuak, the Basque government programme for the international promotion and distribution of Basque short films (2012, 2013) and was formerly a member of the Basque Government Council on Culture.
Alejandro Díaz Castaño (Asturias, 1979) has been the director of the International Film Festival of Gijon (FICX) since 2017, where he had already worked as a programmer in 2010 and 2011. He was also the Head of Programming for the European Film Festival of Sevilla from 2012 to 2016. He is a member of FIPRESCI and has contributed to monthly magazines such as Caimán Cuadernos de Cine and Rockdelux. He has collaborated in a number of collective volumes on audiovisual topics and, in 2015, he published his first solo book, Olvidos vergonzosos (Maclein and Parker). IN 2016 he wrote and directed the short film Ihesa (La fuga), screened in San Sebastián, BAFICI, Uruguay and Málaga. Over the last few years he has been a member of the panel of judges for awards such as BAFICI, Edinburgh IFF, Crossing Europe Linz, Cinélatino Toulouse and Las Palmas, among others.
Montse Triola (Banyoles, 1974) is a producer and performer. She gained a degree in Performing Arts at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona. She completed a Master's Degree in "Theatre Practice" on 20th century visual and performance theories at the Rose Bruford College, United Kingdom. She studied English Philology at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. In 2003, together with Albert Serra, she founded the film production company Andergraun Films, going on to produce the following feature films: Honor de cavalleria (2006) El cant dels ocells (2008) (both premiered at the Quinzena de Realitzadors of the Cannes Festival), Historia de mi muerte (Golden Leopard at the Festival of Locarno 2013) and La muerte de Luis XIV (official selection of the Cannes Festival 2016). Executive producer of the Roi Soleil (Grand Prix of the International Competition of the Marseille International Film Festival 2018), Los Tres Cerditos (dOCUMENTA 13 of Kassel) and Singularity (Venice Biennale de Arte 2015). She produced El Senyor ha fet en mi meravelles (2011) for the exhibition “Todas las Cartas. Correspondencias Fílmicas” of the CCCB and Els noms de Crist (2010) for the MACBA.
