Punto de Vista presents its educational programme thanks to the support of a number of entities from Navarre
01/09/2020

Through this programme, the festival -sponsored by the Government of Navarre- strengthens its collaboration with a number of institutions, in this case Pamplona City Council -through the Civivox network-, Fundación Caja Navarra, the Planetarium of Pamplona and the Filmoteca de Navarra.

Since 2018, the educational programme is one of the sections of Punto de Vista that has become most prominent. It means that the activities in the festival are extended to other audiences in the city: children, families, adolescents and adults, with programmes in the Planetarium of Pamplona, the Filmoteca (Cinematheque) of Navarre, Civican and the Civivox network of centres. The educational programme consists of workshops and screenings that will take place throughout February and during the festival from 2-7 March. The Government of Navarre, which sponsors the festival, incorporates different entities and institutions to carry out the programme, among them Pamplona City Council through its Civivox network, Fundación Caja Navarra, the Planetarium of Pamplona and the Filmoteca de Navarra. Furthermore, schools from all over Navarre join the programme by participating in some of the activities.

The workshops will ask participants to see, think and make films, encouraging them to work with tools and formats that are already available but with a new perspective to get rid of the ‘fear’ associated with creation. They will be led by the Navarrese filmmaker Marina Lameiro, the Basque audiovisual group Zazpi T’erdi, the filmmaker from Barcelona Carlos Casas and the Catalan audiovisual cooperative Drac Màgic.

Enrolments for the workshops, which will be held in Civivox centres, are now open at www.pamplonaescultura.es/inscripciones-cursos-and-activades-civivox.

The screenings will include a session of films for children in the Planetarium and in Baluarte, with morning screenings for school groups in the Filmoteca.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME PUNTO DE VISTA 2020:

1. WORKSHOPS

a. Filmed letters by Marina Lameiro.

The Navarrese filmmaker Marina Lameiro will work with children on the writing and creation of audiovisual letters. The workshop will take the form of two 4-hour sessions; in the first, the children will write a letter as a group, a kind of message in a bottle, and they will create their own material depending on the subject they choose in the workshop. In the second week’s session they will record a letter to themselves in the future, helped with editing by the filmmaker in the second session. Once the workshop is over, they can take the end product home with them.

Practical information. For children aged 8-12, in Civivox Mendillorri. The participants will need a camera (a mobile phone camera is sufficient). Saturday 8 February from 10:00 to 14:00 and Saturday 15 February for 30 minutes, to be decided with the participants. Price: €5.

Marina Lameiro. A Navarrese filmmaker and graduate in Audiovisual Communication from the URJC (Madrid) and the holder of a Master’s in Creative Documentaries from the UPF (Barcelona). In 2014 and 2015 she was a creative resident in UnionDocs (New York) and made her first film in 2018, Young & Beautiful, which she premiered in Punto de Vista and was nominated for the Feroz Prizes.

b. Experimental cinema and bicycles by Zazpi T’erdi.

This workshop sets out to experiment with image and sound through the use of a bicycle. To do so, audiovisual material will be created for different parts of a bike, and its components will be used to play with film language. The material will be used to prepare a journey in which, from a bicycle, images will be projected onto surfaces, walls and buildings in the city that enter into a dialogue with the images and texts created. The bike represents a creative tool to reflect on its relationship to filmmaking and the city.

Practical information. For participants aged 16 and above in Civivox Iturrama. No previous experience is required. What is needed is a bicycle, and participants are encouraged to bring parts from their own bikes such as wheels, handlebars, spokes, etc. Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February from 10:00 to 14:30 and from 16:30 to 20:00. Price: €5.

Zazpi T’erdi is a group that mixes audiovisual genres. Its projects pay special attention to the filmmaking process and the way it relates to reality, passing from non-fiction to experimental cinema.

c. Elephants’ cemetery, by Carlos Casas.

A workshop based on the film Cemetery by Carlos Casas. In it, we follow and elephant and its keeper as they go through the jungle in Sri Lanka towards the well-known elephants’ cemetery.

The workshop is an immersive sound experience in which children are invited to listen and draw -in the dark- the imaginary place they are going to travel to through sound. It offers a different approach to elephants and the world of nature, through which the participants develop their listening skills and work on imagination. An exhibition will be made of their drawings.

Practical information. From 6 to 12 years of age in Civivox Condestable. Friday 6 March from 16:30 to 17:10 for 6-8 year-olds, from 17: 30 to 18:10 for 8-10 year-olds, from 18:30 to 19:10 for 10-12 year-olds. Price: €2.

Carlos Casas. A filmmaker and artist whose work ranges from documentary films, sound art, video-installations and performances. Casas develops sound landscapes to explore themes related to the world of Nature, memory and death. His films have been screened and won prizes in festivals all over the world.

d. Images that listen: a documentary portrait by Drac Màgic. In collaboration with Fundación Caja Navarra.

How should a portrait of a person be presented in documentary film? What defines our subject? What relationship do we have with that person? This theoretical and practical workshop analyses the strategies used by filmmakers to create a portrait -or a self-portrait- through the viewing of audiovisual fragments, focused on portraits of young people. The aim is to create a collective work.

Practical information. Workshop for 14-16 year-olds from the second cycle of compulsory secondary education, 17-18 (High School) and other educational cycle students. Wednesday 4 March at 09:30 and 12:00 in Civican. Interested centres should write to info@puntodevistafestival.com.

Drac Màgic is a cooperative dedicated to the dissemination of film culture, understood as a space for knowledge and reflection. Some of the main areas worked on in its activities are the representation of women in the audiovisual media and their presence as auteurs in the film world.

2. SCREENINGS

a. Planetarium and Baluarte. A session of recent films for a child audience in the Planetarium and Baluarte. Short films that show that another kind of child cinema is possible, with the Planetarium’s screen joining Punto de Vista.

Practical information. Screening in the Planetarium: Saturday 29 February at 12:00 and in Baluarte on Saturday 7 March at 11:00. Tickets on sale soon at www.pamplonetario.org and www.puntodevistafestival.com.

b. Filmoteca de Navarra. Screening of Tódalas mulleres que coñezo, by Xiana do Teixeiro, presented by Drac Màgic for 15-16 year-olds, 16-18 year-olds and other educational cycle students.

A film in three acts that are also three interlinked and inter-generational conversations that tell of experiences -of friendship, fear, and resistance- in the public domain. This spoken documentary appears as a radical work of direct cinema to highlight structural violence against women and the cracks in the myth of equality.

Practical information. Screenings: Thursday 5 March at 10:00 and 12:00. Interested centres should write to info@puntodevistafestival.com.
