Punto de Vista brings to a close a year marked by diverse, expansive and transformational filmmaking.

The festival is to hold its 16th edition from 14th to 19th March 2022.

Saturday 20th March saw the close of Punto de Vista. This brought an end to a week packed with film screenings and cultural activities, placing Pamplona in the international spotlight for non-fiction films. The festival can now confirm the dates for its 16th edition, to be held from 14th to 19th March 2022.

This latest edition was marked by the current health situation, which forced the festival to adapt in order to comply with all the measures and protocols in place. Thus, Punto de Vista set up an online platform with part of the programme, so that it would be available worldwide for those unable to travel to Pamplona. Since 15th March, the opening date of the festival, about 500 users have registered on the platform and some 2,000 viewings have been recorded of the more than 80 pieces hosted there. The diverse range of countries connected should be stressed, with Spain first, followed by the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany and Argentina. A total of more than 35 different countries accessed the festival's online platform. These figures will continue to rise as the platform will continue to offer the content until 18th April.

Also important this year was the participation, both in person and online, of students from different educational institutions throughout Spain. Students from the Universidad de Navarra, Universidad Pública de Navarra, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat de Barcelona, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Carlos III, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Escuela de Arte Master LAV, La Faktoria Choreographic Center, ESCAC, Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid (ECAM) and CTL Formación Escuela de Imagen y Sonido played an active role in the festival.

This year, 2021, Punto de Vista brings to an end the task and the work of its artistic director, Garbiñe Ortega, who for the last four years has sought to offer a diverse, expansive and transformational view of film to bring it to new audiences and consolidate those who have taken part in the festival over the years.

The venues
This year's Punto de Vista has had eight venues. The main venue of El Baluarte and the historic cooperation with the Filmoteca de Navarra, Pamplona planetarium, Civivox Condestable and Teatro Gayarre were joined this year by the Museo Oteiza and the Museo Universidad de Navarra.

Moreover, this year a new venue was created: La Plaza (The Square). Over the week of the festival an awning was set up in the Plaza del Baluarte to create an open-air venue, in collaboration with Pamplona town hall. This hosted the press conferences, conversations between film-makers and other activities such as for example the NAPARDOCS encounters that have been part of the festival for years, organised by NAPAR in collaboration with Clavna. Finally, La Plaza saw the screening, twice a day, of the documentary Los No San Fermines, which was highly popular, with several screenings being full up.

Collaborations
With regard to festival partners, Punto de Vista has remained in touch with various of its regular partners for this 15th edition and new agreements have been reached. Thus, the festival collaborated for the first time this year with institutions like the Civivox network, Pamplona planetarium, Filmoteca Navarra, Teatro Gayarre and the Goethe Institut Madrid, and forged relations with partners like La Fábrica, Museo Universidad de Navarra and the Museo Oteiza. On the other hand, the Amos Vogel retrospective will be going on tour thanks to the agreement reached with the Filmoteca Española, Cineteca and Filmoteca de Catalunya.

In addition, Punto de Vista has collaboration agreements with media like Radio 3, which has made several programmes with content about the festival, and with hotels in the city such as the Hotel 3 Reyes and the Hotel Maisonnave, which have accommodated guest professionals.

It should be pointed out that during the pandemic, in common with other arts sectors, film festivals have had time to build links and networks, with several associations of events being set up, including Federación Pantalla to bring together regional coordinators, and La Mesta, which brings together festivals in different provinces. Punto de Vista has joined both these networks.

Institutional synergies

As part of this collaboration with Federación Pantalla, an institutional working group was set up, with the following institutions and organisations taking part: the culture department of the government of Navarra, Federación Pantalla, La Mesta, Instituciones Culturales, ICAA, Acción Cultural Española, Europa Creativa, Instituto Cervantes, Instituto Francés, Goethe Institut Madrid and Fundación Caja Navarra. In this context representatives of the different institutions discussed current and future challenges to festivals, their sustainability and relevance as cultural spaces, and sketched out future lines of work to continue with these institutional meetings.

A meeting was also organised between the different festivals in Navarra, including NIFF, Navarra Tierra de Cine, Zinetika, #LabMeCrazy Science Film Festival, Filmaking For Social Change and Lo que viene, among others. The meeting was organised by the general directorate for culture as part of Punto de Vista, with the aim of weaving a fabric within the region to work and create synergies.
