The three audiovisual pieces designed will be screened at the beginning of each session at the festival.

The artist Valentina Alvarado was commissioned to design the intro for Punto de Vista 2021. Each year, the festival asks a filmmaker to design the intro, the short piece shown before every session. So Valentina Alvarado now joins a list which includes Fernando Franco, Jaione Camborda and Lois Patiño.

The intro, titled Se levanta el sol, comes in three versions, all available for viewing on the festival’s Vimeo channel.

“Placing the focus on a bulb that is yet to sprout, and from which I will observe its uncertain daily growth. The roots move like jellyfish, will it stay shut, rot, bloom? I think about the word seed, in germinated, non-existent bodies, in daily cultivation. The possibilities of a constructed landscape: incorporating layers of paper, pieces of clay, lights and textures to this small, possible and crumpled, imagined location is a tactile act charged with care and patience.” ─Valentina Alvarado.

Valentina Alvarado studied Graphic Design at the University of Zulia, where she went on to become a professor in the Arts Faculty. She moved to Spain in 2014 to study a Master of Arts at the University of Barcelona. Her pieces have been exhibited in Punto de Vista, Rotterdam, Oberhausen, (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico, Xcèntric and San Francisco Cinematheque, among others. At the start of this year, she undertook a residence at LIFT (Canada) as part of a grant from ACE Cultura and (S8). At the end of 2020 she exhibited the art installation Y si ver era el fuego alongside Carlos Vásquez Méndez, part of the LOOP programme of exhibitions in the Filmoteca de Cataluña film library.
