Screenings and activities in Pamplona in full swing at the international non-fiction festival

The 15th edition of the Punto de Vista Festival continues its course, bringing to Pamplona films, art and performances that take a different look at reality. Punto de Vista opened this year with the premiere of the film Dardara by Marina Lameiro, who gripped the audience with her documentary tribute to the fans of the Navarrese rock band Berri Txarrak.

And the festival has brimmed with cultural activities and film screenings since then. These have included the films in the Official Selection. Some directors, like Jorge Moneo Quintana, Patricia Esquivias, Santiago Bonilla, Pablo Marín and Alexander Cabeza Trigg, have been able to attend the presentations of their films at the main Baluarte venue. There are still three Official Selection programmes left, including the screening of “The Works and Days (of Tayoko Shiojiri in the Shiotani Basin)” by the directors C.W. Winter and Anders Edström, an 8-hour film to be shown at the University of Navarra Museum.

The festival has also enjoyed a selection of some of the more daring exponents of Basque-Navarrese documentary film in the Paisaia programme: Zerua blu (2020) by Lur Olaizola, Un retrato de N.B. (2020) by Peio Aguirre, Quebrantos (2020) by Koldo Almandoz and María Elorza, and Agiña (2019) by María Sánchez. The directors attended the screenings and held talks with the audience.

The Amos Vogel retrospective got under way at the Navarra Film Library on Tuesday after a presentation from the festival’s artistic director, Garbiñe Ortega. And screening of the retrospective focusing on the American artist Nancy Holt started at Baluarte on Wednesday.

The DOKBIZIA programme saw Vera Mantero presenting her work “Los Serrenhos do Caldeirão, ejercicios en antropología ficcional” at Teatro Gayarre, where the audience enjoyed a performance exploring the link between body and spirit, between everyday life and art.

One of the highlights of the activities still remaining is the Artist in focus session showcasing the contemporary artist Pedro G. Romero, featuring his films Nueve Sevillas and La pel.lícula, and including an illustrated conversation between Pedro and the dancer Idoia Zabaleta.

On the last day of the festival, Saturday 20 March, the public can attend a performance of Salitre by Maria Salgado and the screening of one of the Nancy Holt programmes at the Oteiza Museum. This year's X Films candidates, Tamara García, Irati Gorostidi and Elisa Celda, will also make their final pitch to the audience, and the second session of short films for children will be held.

Punto de Vista will close its 15th edition with the premiere of the collective audiovisual project The letters that weren’t and also are, a brainchild of Garbiñe Ortega, the artistic director of Punto de Vista, in collaboration with the filmmaker Matías Piñeiro. In this film project, several filmmakers write a filmed letter to another director from film history who they did not know personally and whose work was as distant as possible from their own.

The closing event will also offer those attending the chance to take part in a collective meditation session. The World Wide Tuning Meditation (2007) by Pauline Oliveros (session led by Ximena Alarcón) invites the public to use their voices, intoning vowel sounds and/or humming, and to listen together, no matter what their singing experience or language.
