Punto de Vista will offer activities at the Planetarium and other venues in town.

DOKBIZIA (which means ‘living documentary’ in Basque) is aimed at bringing together languages and artists concerned with the real. This new section at Punto de Vista Festival will have a different main theme every year. In 2018, its subtitle will be ‘Give me, then, a body’, serving as the programme’s backbone. Focusing on documentaries on the screen and beyond, the section will feature filmmakers, visual artists, philosophers and performers: Carlos Casas, Esperanza Collado, Idoia Zabaleta, Nicolás Pereda, and others.

Two of Punto de Vista’s special sessions will take place at the Pamplona Planetarium.

On the weekend before the festival, there will be two family activities at the Planetarium. Entertainment and science to bring Punto de Vista closer to local families.

EXCHANGES: Films as letters

A film series curated by Francisco Algarín and Garbiñe Ortega, offering works by a variety of directors: the Lumière Brothers, Dziga Vertov, Jonas Mekas, Helga Fanderl, Robert Fenz, Ute Aurand, Jorge Honik…

EXCHANGES: Letters as films

This book, edited by author and curator Francisco Algarín and Garbiñe Ortega, is based on the idea that the letters between filmmakers, sent or not, can give valuable insight into the history of film, not as time’s arrow but rather as a series of layers from various times and places, which is what history always is. The book contains letters written by Joris Ivens, Jean Vigo, George Franju, Stan Brakhage, Chick Strand and Marguerite Duras, among others.

As many as 867 films have been entered for Punto de Vista 2018. They are short and feature films from 63 countries: Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Nepal, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela and Vietnam.

The submission deadline was 15 September. The members of the Selection Committee are now watching all the films to choose the 18 titles that will be part of the Punto de Vista Official Selection 2018, to be announced in January.
