Eleven feature films and six short films from eleven different countries will make the Official Selection at the Navarra International Documentary Film Festival – Punto de Vista, to be held in Pamplona from 19 to 24 February 2013. The Festival is organised by INAAC Foundation for the Government of Navarra.
Punto de Vista 2013 has got its judges. They are Bill Brown, Christian von Borries, J.P. Sniadecki, José Luis Cienfuegos and Ana Isabel Santos Strindberg, and they will choose the winners of the awards in the Official Selection.
The space Punto de Vista dedicates to the most invisible of Spanish films of the past will focus on the life and work of José María Berzosa this year – a filmmaker whose anti-Franco ideas sent him into exile in Paris in 1956.
In January, the Navarra Film Library is hosting the 3rd Punto de Vista in Focus meeting. The activity was established in November 2010, in an effort to extend the Festival in Pamplona beyond February. In this new edition, under the title The Tricks of Time (Las trampas del tiempo), four films are being screened exploring the connections between memory, history and the past. Time likes to play tricks, drawing patterns in our memories where we get trapped. What we remember may have never happened – in any case, it was not the way we keep it in our memory. The distance between facts and memories grows longer, but we are never able to accurately measure it.
Do clowns really die? Do princesses answer letters? Do we picture death as a white horse? Where do old words go when they die? These are some of the questions asked in Emak Bakia Baita (The Emak Bakia House), a documentary on the search for the house on the Basque coast where Man Ray shot his famous film Emak Bakia (Leave Me Alone) back in 1926. Eighty years after the shooting, Oskar Alegria sets out to find the house on the basis of four clues: the house’s weird name, a photogram of a window, a photogram of a door and an image of the sea.
