WRITING DESIRE

Year2000 Duration25 min. DirectorUrsula Biemann
Writing Desire is a video essay on the relationships between words, bodies, and desire. The tape analyses the triangular relationship in the romantic communication brought about by digital technologies like the Internet, with the concomitant disembodiment of sexuality and the marketing of sex relationships. It thus underscores the impact of new technologies in the global circulation of women’s bodies from the third world to the first world in the marketplace of desire. The video explores the subjectivities that emerge in this complex interchange in the industrial world, post-socialist countries, and Southeast Asia.
