AMATEUR FILM UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF AVANT-GARDE
IN MEMORIAM DE LA ABUELITA MERCEDES MARCET POAL

Country: Spain
Year: 1950
Duration: 5'
Direction: Pere Font

Sinopsis

In this film, the director feverishly records the last moments in the life of his mother, as well as her death and the rituals associated with the disposal of her body. Today, this unique documentary in the family film genre affirms its singularity as a result of its connections with nineteenth-century photography, when pictures of dead people were taken for a last memory of them. Also, it questions the clichés of family films, confined to the depiction of happy moments only.

Bio

Pere Font i Marcet (Terrassa, 1914-1989) is another of the pioneers of Catalan amateur film. His films comprise satirical takes (including unequally effective gags and lightly-treated anachronisms) and dramatic subjects. According to film critics, his best film is Gotas, based on a script that appeared in a French magazine. Gotas is remarkable for its expressive editing.
