On Saturday 22nd February, the X Films Project will offer a double bill at the 5.30 pm session held at the Saide Carlos III Cinema: the Punto de Vista Festival will reveal the winning project of this year’s edition and will screen La Casa de mi Padre (My Father’s House) by Francina Verdés, winner of the X Films Project last year. Tickets can be purchased for 3€ at the cinema box office.
We will have the opportunity to be with Francina Verdés who will accompany us throughout the screening to present a film that has been shot almost entirely in Auritz / Burguete, a mountain village in Navarra which was chosen by the film-maker to make her documentary on old traditions. The theme is an old story that has rarely been captured in images: the transfer of the family home to one of the sons. Its moral limits are shown in the process, when Francina realises what is actually happening: camera in hand, she enters into the houses of the village and gets an insight into family traditions that, like hers, have been marked by this old hereditary tradition.

The X Films Project was designed by the Punto de Vista Festival in 2010 to offer emerging documentary makers the opportunity to shoot an audiovisual essay creation in Navarra. This section of the festival recovers the spirit of the Navarra X Films producer, founded by Juan Huarte in 1963 with the aim of producing films that show a singular artistic interest or represent special values. The X Films Project represents the commitment to producing the most innovative, ambitious and experimental non-fiction films.

The 2013 selection committee, made up of Marina Díaz (Instituto Cervantes), Carolina López (Xcéntric) and María Zamora (Avalón PC), chose the project presented by Francina Verdés for “the interest of the story that can be turned from something private and personal into a reflection of how to find our identity in the 21st century”.

In the 2014 edition, Punto de Vista will follow the same path and will offer three more emerging Spanish documentary makers the opportunity to shoot an audiovisual essay creation in Navarra. In this edition, Aitor Gametxo, Eloy Dominguez and Mercedes Mangrané have been invited to present their projects during the Punto de Vista Seminar 2014.
